I don’t feel comfortable attending the recent All Leaders Meet. It did not feel like a SGM meeting that leave you with hope and positive energy. Sure, there was the great news about the upcoming launch of the SGI Asia Culture and Education Center in Johor. And the coincidence of the launch date being on 27 Nov, the same date that Ikeda Sensei came to Malaysia for the second time, was great news. However, it became superficial when the majority of the messages from the speakers implied how great Gakkai is and how wrong and pitiful it was for those who decided to leave. And all of us should not leave this ship because it is the only place to find the gathering of happy people.
Reminds me of Captain Smith of RMS Titanic who said:
I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Modern shipbuilding has gone beyond that.
As Captain of the ship, he was fully confident that the RMS Titanic was unsinkable. Everyone told him that, even the ship architect, and definitely the media. That was the sentiment I felt that night in the ALM, that the leaders speaking were super confident that they have a strong grip of the situation, despite the waves of chaos moving underneath them. And this confidence resulted in ..
- continued condemnation of people who left and formed NBA. Specifically quoting Harada-san (SGI Study Department Chief) on this, except, did Harada-san understand the full story of why people left SGM for NBA?
- criticizing groups for using blogs and social medias to write things that were not true, as though the newsletters by Soka Spirit Committee were not equally guilty.
- using Soka Gakkai Buddha in a way that implied you can only find happiness in SGM and you are either with us, or you are against us.
- no details given regarding the whole transparency, accountability, responsibility and fairness process. The only thing we are aware of is the appointment of an external auditors but there is no terms of reference as to the exact tasks and scope of work. The rest of the outstanding items continued to be filled with question marks. It’s almost 7 months since April 2016 when SGM said they will take action. See Progress So Far. The slower SGM act, the more dissidents will appear and the more people will jump ship.
Is this the general sentiment at the top level? That the SGM ship will never sink and so, if you are not on board with them, then you had better jump into the freezing Artic sea.
Smith: The pumps… if we opened the doors…
Thomas Andrews: [interrupting] The pumps buy you time, but minutes only. From this moment, no matter what we do, Titanic will founder.
Ismay: [incredulously] But this ship can’t sink!
Thomas Andrews: She’s made of iron, sir! I assure you, she can… and she will. It is a mathematical certainty.
Smith: How much time?
